On September 21, 2023, Thalis E.S SA signed a contract with the Municipality of Ierapetra in the Regional Unit of Lasithi, Crete Region, for the project "Installation of Wastewater Treatment in Makry Gialos."

The project involves the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with tertiary treatment, making a significant contribution to achieving circularity in the broader area. The implementation of this modern facility will ensure the quality of swimming water and groundwater, contributing to the protection of marine and terrestrial flora and fauna and the development of a significant coastal tourist area.

The innovative wastewater treatment facility is expected to meet the needs of the residents of Koutsouras and Makry Gialos in the Municipality of Ierapetra, as well as Ano Viannos in the Municipality of Sitia for over fifty years. With tertiary treatment, the treated wastewater can be used for unlimited irrigation of agricultural areas in the serviced region.
