Mr. Manolis Chatzakis, Environmentalist-Hygienist MSc, THALIS, participated in the panel "Innovative interventions in solid waste and water management," within the framework of the 2nd Investment-Scientific Forum "Energy Recovery from Waste Biomass-Biomethane," organized by the A-Energy Investment Initiative with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Mr. Chatzakis highlighted the contribution of THALIS to the green transition of Crete, presenting the project "Sludge Treatment Center for the Wastewater Treatment Plants of the Heraklion Regional Unit."
Specifically, he referred to the modern solutions adopted, which upgrade the cycle of transformation, elimination, and recovery of sludge from urban wastewater, promoting circularity and environmental protection in the region.
At the same time, he presented the expected results of resource conservation and utilization, with the sludge being able to be reused as a soil conditioner after modern and natural treatment methods. In this context, he emphasized the prospect of achieving a CLASS A product according to the USEPA standard, that is, the stabilization and sanitization of sludge through a combination of innovative and environmentally friendly processes.
