Bio-waste - Holistic Management: THALIS at the 8th Conference of HSWMA.
Published : October 3rd, 2024
THALIS participated in the two-day proceedings of the 8th Conference of the "Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (HSWMA)" titled "Circular Cities & Solid Waste Management – Challenges for Society, Stakeholders, and the State". The Conference provided a platform for fruitful and substantial dialogue, highlighting key aspects of the challenges and opportunities for enhancing the circularity of cities.
"In the prospect of creating sustainable circular cities, the holistic approach to all stages of bio-waste management combined is a significant first step. Rational management of the largest waste stream should not be seen as a problem but as an opportunity. With the contribution of the private sector, reliable solutions are offered that maximize material and resource recovery, leading to high value-added products. Among other things, it is essential to utilize international experience by adopting door-to-door bio-waste collection programs while also focusing on large producers. It is clear that the organization of effective collection systems directly impacts the purity of the collected material and determines the possibilities for subsequent processing and the quality of the resulting products," stated, among other things, Mr. George Koufodimos, Director of Construction, Operations, and Engineering at THALIS, in his speech.
THALIS was the Grand Sponsor of this year's event.
THALIS supports the effort of Municipalities to create sustainable circular cities in the context of a holistic planning based on the culture of enhanced collaboration.
