THALIS has signed a contract with the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion (DEYAH) for the project "Operation and Maintenance of the Sewage Pumping and Treatment Facilities of DEYAH."
The contract includes the provision of services for the operation and maintenance of the sewage pumping and treatment facilities of the city of Heraklion, on a 24/7 basis throughout the year.
The provided services cover the entirety of the sewage pumping and treatment facilities of Heraklion, which include:
- 15 sewage pumping stations located throughout the city that transfer wastewater to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
- Conventional secondary wastewater treatment with nitrification-denitrification, biogas production, and utilization.
- Tertiary wastewater treatment using membrane bioreactors (MBR).
- Tertiary wastewater treatment using disc filters and UV disinfection.
- The Heraklion WWTP processes urban wastewater from 200,000 population equivalents with a capacity of 36,000 m³/day. Of this, 6,000 m³/day is treated in the tertiary treatment unit using the submerged membrane bioreactor (MBR) method, while the remainder is treated through secondary treatment using the activated sludge process.
The tertiary-treated wastewater is reused for irrigation of olive groves and vineyards in the Prophet Elias settlement area of the Municipality of Heraklion. The secondary effluent is discharged into the sea through both terrestrial and submarine pipelines at the location of Dabakaria in Heraklion.
At THALIS, we work daily across the entire spectrum of the circular economy to deliver innovative solutions in environmental management, providing future generations with a more sustainable world.
