The project concerns the Restoration of a Temporary Solid Waste Storage Area in "Mesomouri" of Akrotiri Municipality, Chania Prefecture.

This project includes:

  • Initial configuration of the area
  • Covering the waste volume to prevent the uncontrolled inflow of water and to prevent the leakage of pollutants (mainly biogas and leachates) into the environment, using suitable synthetic materials.
  • Final covering of the area using earthen materials and soil improver (compost) suitable for plant cover and its planting.
  • Construction of surface insulation including:
  • Planting
  • Construction of works to prevent the lateral inflow of rain in the site
  • Construction of rainwater collection and transport projects from the surface of the site
  • Construction of biogas collection, extraction and combustion projects
  • Construction of groundwater monitoring and control projects
  • Fencing
