The project concerns the upgrading of the existing waste treatmen plant (WTP) in the "Mavros Spilios" area of D.E. Alikarnassos utilizing all existing facilities and infrastructure.

The Unit will have a nominal annual capacity of 59,200 t/year of municipal solid mixed waste.

The project aims to:

  • the extensive recovery of recyclable materials
  • the reduction of the residue sent to the landfill
  • the production of waste fuel with certified characteristics that can be used in energy-intensive industries

In addition, the scope of the project includes the construction of the new cell of the Landfill in FODELE of Heraklion and specifically the following:

  • New cell with a net capacity of 326,900 m3
  • Leachate and biogas collection projects
  • New Leachate Treatment unit construction projects.

The second part of the contract includes the normal operation of the infrastructure (MEA and XYTY) for six (6) years.
