The project involves the expansion and upgrading of the Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Municipality of Heraklion. The existing WWTP operates since 1996 and treats sewage total flow 30.000 m3 / d. With the offered projects the Wastewater Treatment Plant may accept other additional 6.000 m3 / d sewage, a total of 36.000 m3 / d and thus can serve 194,000 equivalent inhabitants. 

The processing of additional 6.000 m3 / d serving 30,000 people equivalent is in the process of biological reactors MBR membranes, to achieve effluent suitable for irrigation.
